For procurement managers at CROs, ATMP manufacturers, vaccine producers, and research institutions, this is an active operational risk. Here is what is happening, and what you need to do about it right now.<\/p>\n<h2>Why Is FBS So Hard to Get in 2026?<\/h2>\n<p>The shortage is driven by a simple reality: FBS is a byproduct of beef processing. Fewer cattle going to slaughter means less serum \u2014 regardless of demand. According to USDA data, the total US cattle inventory fell to <strong>86.2 million head<\/strong> at the start of 2026 \u2014 the lowest figure since 1951.
