FBS Ultra Low IgG is fetal bovine serum chromatographically depleted of bovine immunoglobulins to below 5 µg/mL — over 100× lower than standard FBS which contains 200–800 µg/mL bovine IgG. In hybridoma culture and monoclonal antibody production, bovine IgG in standard FBS contaminates culture supernatants, competes with the antibody of interest during protein A/G purification, and elevates background in IgG-detection assays. Ultra Low IgG FBS eliminates this interference without affecting albumin, transferrin, or growth factor content. EU and/or US origin, 0.1 µm sterile filtered.

Applications

Application Protocol Note
Hybridoma culture Replace standard FBS 1:1 at same concentration (5–20%) Eliminates bovine IgG contamination in mAb supernatant
Monoclonal antibody production 5–10% in hybridoma production medium throughout culture Protein A/G purification yield and purity improved
IgG ELISA / Western blot development Ultra Low IgG FBS as negative control matrix or assay diluent Eliminates bovine IgG cross-reactivity with anti-human/mouse IgG secondaries
Immunoprecipitation (IP / Co-IP) Culture cells in Ultra Low IgG FBS before lysis and IP Bovine IgG co-precipitation with protein A/G beads eliminated
Flow cytometry with anti-IgG antibodies Culture cells before staining Non-specific Fc receptor binding via bovine IgG prevented

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Ultra Low IgG and Low IgG FBS?

Ultra Low IgG FBS contains less than 5 µg/mL bovine IgG — the highest depletion grade, equivalent to leading international standards. Low IgG FBS contains less than 50 µg/mL. For hybridoma culture and protein A/G purification, Ultra Low IgG is recommended. For general IgG assay development where reduced background is sufficient, Low IgG is often adequate.

Does chromatographic IgG depletion affect cell growth?

No — chromatographic purification removes only the IgG fraction. Albumin, transferrin and growth factors are fully retained. Growth performance is validated on reference cell lines and confirmed equivalent to standard FBS.
