An established xeno-free supplement for MSC expansion

Human Platelet Lysate is produced by lysing human platelets — either through freeze-thaw cycling or other validated methods — to release their intracellular growth factor content directly into solution. Unlike FBS or even off-the-clot human serum, hPL is specifically optimised as a growth-supporting supplement rather than a general serum substitute.

For mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) expansion in particular, hPL has become one of the most widely adopted xeno-free alternatives to FBS, supporting comparable or in some cases superior proliferation rates while removing the regulatory complications associated with bovine-derived material in ATMP manufacturing.
