A species-matched serum for murine research
Mouse serum is used wherever a species-matched serum background is preferable to a xenogenic (e.g., bovine) source — particularly in murine immunology, hybridoma development and assays sensitive to species-specific serum proteins or antibodies.
Because mouse serum naturally contains murine immunoglobulins and complement proteins, it is also used as a reference or control matrix in murine-specific immunoassay development, where a bovine or other xenogenic serum could introduce cross-reactivity.
