Human Serum Type AB
EU and US-origin, Type AB human serum from mixed-gender certified donors — the universal blood type, free of anti-A/B antibodies, for diagnostic ELISA matrices, immunoassay controls, IVD manufacturing and broad-compatibility research applications.
Universal Donor Type
Blood type AB contains no anti-A or anti-B antibodies — broadly compatible across diagnostic and research applications without blood-type-specific interference or lysis risk.
EU & US Certified Origin
Sourced from certified donor centres in the EU and/or US under full regulatory oversight. ATMP-relevant documentation (Ph. Eur. 5.2.12) available on request.
Treatment Options
Available as standard clotted serum or on request as heat inactivated (HI), gamma irradiated (GI) or low-endotoxin specification to match your assay or manufacturing requirements.
Flexible Packaging
Supplied in bottles or bags with no minimum order quantity. Donor age specification, lot reservation and bulk volume options available on request.
The standard matrix serum for diagnostics and immunoassay development
Human Serum Type AB is the most widely used blood-type specification for diagnostic and research applications. Because AB serum lacks both anti-A and anti-B antibodies, it is compatible with all ABO blood type antigens — making it the standard choice wherever blood-type interference could compromise ELISA readouts, lateral flow calibration or immunoassay control performance.
SeamlessBio sources Type AB serum from certified EU and US donor centres, processed as clotted serum and quality-controlled in Germany. The mixed-gender donor pool provides a natural baseline for assay matrix development without gender-specific hormonal bias.
For applications requiring defined hormonal backgrounds, consistent male-donor lots or reduced TRALI risk, our Human Serum Type AB Male is the preferred specification. For cell culture applications requiring native growth factors, our off-the-clot Human Serum OTC formats may be more appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Type AB human serum preferred for diagnostic and immunoassay applications?
Blood type AB contains neither anti-A nor anti-B antibodies, making it the universal donor type for serum-based assay matrices. Using AB serum eliminates blood-type-specific lysis, agglutination and assay interference that can occur with Type A, B or O serum. This broad compatibility is critical in ELISA matrix development, lateral flow assay calibration and IVD manufacturing where consistent matrix properties across lots are essential.
What is the difference between Human Serum Type AB and Human Serum Type AB Male?
Both are AB-type, standard clotted serum. Human Serum Type AB is sourced from mixed-gender donors, while Human Serum Type AB Male comes exclusively from male donors. Male-donor serum eliminates female-specific hormonal variability and carries no TRALI (Transfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury) risk from HLA antibodies. Type AB Male is preferred when tighter lot-to-lot consistency is required — for example in long-term assay development, clinical diagnostic manufacturing or studies sensitive to hormonal background variation.
Is heat inactivated (HI) or gamma irradiated (GI) Human Serum Type AB available?
Yes. Both heat inactivated (56 °C, 30 min) and gamma irradiated versions are available on request. Heat inactivation destroys complement activity — important for applications where complement interference would affect readouts. Gamma irradiation provides pathogen inactivation for biosafety-critical applications. Low-endotoxin specifications are also available. Please indicate your requirements when requesting a quote.
What documentation is included with Human Serum Type AB from SeamlessBio?
Every shipment is supplied with a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (CoA) covering key quality parameters. On request, we provide ATMP-relevant donor documentation per Ph. Eur. 5.2.12, detailed origin documentation and lot reservation agreements. All documentation is provided in English and German on request.
What donor age ranges are available for Human Serum Type AB?
Our standard product uses pooled serum from adult donors at certified EU and US donor centres. Specific donor age ranges (e.g. 18–30, 18–50, 40+) can be specified on request for applications where age-related plasma protein composition needs to be controlled. Please enquire for available age cohort lots and lead times.
In which volumes and formats is Human Serum Type AB available?
Available in standard bottle formats and in bag formats for larger volumes. There is no minimum order quantity for standard sizes. Bulk volumes and customised lot reservation for IVD manufacturing or long-term research programmes are available on request. Contact us for current stock and lead times.
Does SeamlessBio deliver Human Serum Type AB to the UK and Switzerland?
Yes. SeamlessBio delivers human serum cold-chain to all EU member states, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. We handle all required export and import documentation. Contact us for current lead times and delivery terms for your region.
Is Human Serum Type AB from SeamlessBio suitable for IVD manufacturing?
Yes. Human Serum Type AB from SeamlessBio is used by IVD manufacturers as a calibrator or control matrix. For regulated IVD applications, we provide full batch documentation and, on request, ATMP-grade documentation per Ph. Eur. 5.2.12. We recommend confirming your specific documentation requirements with our team before placing a manufacturing order so we can match you with the appropriate lot and documentation package.
