7 Processing Services
Heat Inactivation
56°C for 30 minutes. Destroys complement proteins — standard for hybridoma culture, hematopoietic cell applications and immunoassays where complement activity causes interference. Does not significantly affect growth factor content.
Charcoal Absorption
Single or double treatment. Removes lipophilic molecules including steroids, hormones and lipids. Single charcoal for lipid reduction; double charcoal for near-zero steroid depletion. Standard for steroid receptor assay calibrators.
Gamma Irradiation
25–45 kGy. Virus safety treatment at validated ISO 11137-compliant external facility. Full irradiation certificate and dose report per lot. FDA/EMA accepted for GMP pathway FBS. Highest virus safety documentation available.
Delipidation
Lipid removal, hormones retained. For CLSI EP7 lipemia interference studies and IVD calibrator matrices where lipid is the interference variable. Differs from charcoal treatment — steroid hormones remain intact.
Ultra-Low IgG Depletion
IgG reduced to <50 µg/mL. Protein A/G affinity depletion of IgG from serum. Required for ELISA and western blot applications where bovine or human IgG cross-reacts with detection antibodies.
Dialysis
3.5–50 kDa MWCO. Removal of small molecules — growth factors, hormones, amino acids — to produce defined, low-molecular-weight depleted serum for specific research applications.
External Virus Safety Testing
Pharmaceutical-standard virus safety testing for FBS, human serum and other biological materials — viral marker panel including PCR-based virus detection. Testing at accredited external laboratory. Report suitable for regulatory submission and ATMP ancillary material files.

All seven processing services are available for customer-supplied serum or biological fluid lots — not just SeamlessBio stock. Submit your serum type, volume, required treatment and any specification requirements for a processing quote and lead time. Minimum volumes apply per treatment type.
Minimum Volumes
Heat inactivation: from 50 mL. Charcoal absorption: from 100 mL. Gamma irradiation: minimum volumes depend on irradiation facility requirements — typically from 500 mL. Delipidation, IgG depletion, dialysis: from 100 mL. Contact us with your volume for exact minimums.

What serum processing services are available?
Seven processing types: heat inactivation (56°C/30 min), single and double charcoal absorption, gamma irradiation (25–45 kGy), delipidation, ultra-low IgG depletion, dialysis (3.5–50 kDa) and external virus safety testing. All at our Germany facility except gamma irradiation (external ISO 11137 facility).
Can processing be applied to my own serum lot?
Yes — all services available for customer-supplied lots as well as SeamlessBio stock. Contact us with serum type, volume and required treatment for pricing and lead time.
What is the difference between charcoal and delipidation?
Charcoal absorption removes both lipids AND steroid hormones — steroid hormones adsorb to the charcoal along with lipids. Delipidation removes lipids only — steroid hormones remain in the serum. Use charcoal for steroid assay calibrators; use delipidation for CLSI EP7 lipemia studies where hormones must be retained.
What documentation is provided for gamma irradiated serum?
Full irradiation certificate, dose report (minimum/maximum dose specified per order), facility validation documentation and CoA post-irradiation. Suitable for FDA/EMA regulatory submissions and GMP batch records.
