What is FBS Standard and when should I use it instead of other FBS grades?
FBS Standard is the most cost-effective grade of fetal bovine serum in the SeamlessBio portfolio. Sourced from South American herds (Brazil/Argentina), sterile filtered at 0.1 µm and EMEA-certified, it is the right choice for routine mammalian cell culture with robust, well-established cell lines such as CHO, HEK293, Vero or HeLa. For sensitive primary cells, GMP-regulated processes or ATMP manufacturing, our FBS Premium, FBS Low Endotoxin or GMP-Grade FBS are more appropriate.
What documentation is included with FBS Standard from SeamlessBio?
Every shipment includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (CoA), Certificate of Origin (CoO), TSE/BSE Statement and sterility certificate. On request, we also provide detailed origin documentation, lot reservation agreements and Extractables & Leachables (E&L) reports for single-use bag formats. All documents are available in English.
Why is South American origin FBS suitable for European applications?
South America (Brazil and Argentina) has a favourable BSE/TSE risk profile and is one of the most widely used FBS origins globally. EMEA-certified South American FBS is accepted for routine research and development applications in the EU and UK. For processes requiring NZ-origin or AU-origin FBS — preferred for certain GMP regulatory submissions — please enquire about our FBS Premium grade.
In which volumes and formats is FBS Standard available?
FBS Standard is available in 50 mL, 100 mL and 500 mL bottles. Bulk volumes (1 L, 5 L or larger bag formats) are available on request for high-volume or scale-up applications. There is no minimum order quantity for standard bottle sizes. Lot reservation for up to 36 months is possible to ensure consistency across multiple production runs.
How does SeamlessBio ensure batch consistency for FBS Standard?
SeamlessBio offers lot screening support: we provide trial aliquots so you can validate a batch in your specific cell culture system before committing to a larger order. Once a batch is qualified, you can reserve the lot for the duration of your project. Our FBS is sourced from qualified suppliers with direct traceability to the collection facility and processed in Germany under ISO-certified conditions.
Does SeamlessBio deliver FBS Standard to the UK and Switzerland?
Yes. SeamlessBio delivers FBS Standard cold-chain to all EU member states, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Shipments are temperature-controlled throughout the delivery chain. What is the difference between FBS Standard and FBS Premium from SeamlessBio?
FBS Standard is optimised for cost-efficiency in routine, robust cell culture work and typically carries somewhat higher endotoxin and IgG values than our specialised grades. FBS Premium offers tighter lot-to-lot consistency, reduced endotoxin and IgG levels, and is recommended for more sensitive applications, primary cells and pre-clinical development. For GMP-regulated manufacturing, we offer dedicated GMP-Grade FBS with full ICH Q7 batch documentation.
Can I request a sample of FBS Standard before placing a full order?
Yes. SeamlessBio offers trial samples (screening aliquots) of FBS Standard on request. This allows you to test lot-specific performance in your cell culture system before committing to a larger order.
