Tighter donor control for sensitive applications

Donor Horse Serum (DHS) differs from standard horse serum in its sourcing: rather than being collected from a broad donor population, DHS is collected from horses specifically maintained as donors under controlled conditions, with regular veterinary inspection and strict herd segregation. This tighter control reduces lot-to-lot variability and supports the consistency that precise, demanding cell culture protocols require.

Because DHS does not contain bovine antibodies, it is frequently used in bovine virus research — either independently or in combination with bovine sera — where antibody-free serum is essential to avoid confounding viral neutralisation or serology results.

For general or less sensitive laboratory applications, such as immunoassay blocking, our standard Horse Serum is typically the more cost-effective choice.
