Description
Product Overview
SeamlessBio Canine Serum (Dog Serum) is collected from healthy Canis lupus familiaris donors in the European Union under aseptic venipuncture conditions, centrifuged and sterile filtered at 0.2 µm. Endotoxin tested (≤10 EU/mL), sterility tested to Ph. Eur. 2.6.1, and screened for canine-specific pathogens including canine parvovirus, canine distemper virus, and canine adenovirus — all negative. Heat-inactivated (56 °C / 30 min) and non-heat-inactivated formats are available. The serum is particularly suited for MDCK cell culture, influenza vaccine production, AAV vector production in canine-derived host cells, immunodiagnostics development, and veterinary research applications requiring species-matched serum. Full lot-specific documentation including CoA, sterility report, and pathogen screening results is included with every order.

|---|---|
| MDCK cell culture & influenza production | Species-matched serum supplement for Madin-Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK) cells — the primary substrate for influenza vaccine production and viral propagation studies |
| Gene therapy & AAV vector production | Support of canine-derived host cells for AAV vector production, transduction efficiency studies, and neutralizing antibody detection in pre-clinical gene therapy models |
| Immunodiagnostics development | Species-specific matrix for ELISA development and validation, Western blot controls, and serological test development targeting canine analytes |
| Veterinary research | Canine vaccine development, potency assays, disease model research, and therapeutic development requiring authentic canine serum as assay matrix or cell culture supplement |
Storage & Handling
Store long-term at −20 °C; transfer to +4 °C for active use. Limit freeze-thaw cycles to a maximum of 3–4. Thaw overnight at 2–8 °C; do not thaw at 37 °C or above as this may affect protein quality. Swirl gently after thawing — light cloudiness is normal. Aliquot into working volumes after the first thaw to minimise repeated freezing. If precipitation occurs after thawing, centrifuge at 1,000 × g for 10 minutes and use the supernatant. Equilibrate to 37 °C before adding to cell culture medium.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why use canine serum instead of fetal bovine serum for MDCK cell culture?
MDCK (Madin-Darby Canine Kidney) cells are of canine origin and respond optimally to species-matched serum. Canine serum provides growth factors, proteins, and carrier molecules that more closely match the natural physiological environment of these cells compared to FBS. For influenza virus production using MDCK substrates, researchers commonly report higher viral titres with canine serum supplementation. It also eliminates cross-species serum components that may introduce variability in viral propagation assays or interfere with downstream immunodiagnostic tests targeting canine-specific analytes.
What is the difference between heat-inactivated and non-heat-inactivated canine serum, and which should I use?
Heat inactivation (56 °C for 30 minutes) denatures complement proteins, which can cause non-specific cell lysis and variability in cell culture. Heat-inactivated serum is recommended for most cell culture applications — including MDCK culture, AAV production, and routine cell maintenance — as it reduces this variability. Non-heat-inactivated serum retains active complement and is required for complement-dependent immunoassays, neutralisation assays, and research where complement activity is the measured parameter. Please specify your requirement when requesting a quote, as both formats are available.
Which pathogens is the canine serum tested for?
Every lot is screened by PCR for mycoplasma and for canine-specific pathogens: canine parvovirus (CPV), canine distemper virus (CDV), and canine adenovirus (CAV). All results are negative and reported on the lot-specific Certificate of Analysis. Sterility is tested to Ph. Eur. 2.6.1 / USP <71>, and endotoxin is quantified by LAL assay (≤10 EU/mL). Additional pathogen testing can be arranged on request for GMP or regulatory purposes.
Is canine serum available with lot reservation for long-term projects?
Yes — lot reservation is available for up to 36 months with phased deliveries to match your project timeline and cold-storage capacity. For MDCK-based influenza production, AAV programmes, or multi-year research projects requiring consistent serum performance, we strongly recommend qualifying a lot on a 50–100 mL sample first, then reserving the full volume required for your project. Contact us early, particularly for volumes above 1 litre, as availability of qualified canine serum lots is limited.
What documentation is included, and is it suitable for regulatory submissions?
Every order includes a lot-specific Certificate of Analysis (CoA) covering all test parameters, a Safety Data Sheet (SDS), sterility results (Ph. Eur. 2.6.1 / USP <71>), mycoplasma report (PCR), pathogen screening results, and an endotoxin certificate. A Certificate of Origin (CoO) and Animal Welfare Certificate are available on request. All documentation is generated from ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certified partner facilities and can be used to support IND, CTA, and regulatory dossier filings. Contact us to discuss your specific regulatory documentation requirements.
