Description
Product Overview
SeamlessBio FBS Low IgG is a specially processed Fetal Bovine Serum in which bovine immunoglobulin G (IgG) has been depleted to below 5 µg/mL by Protein A/G affinity chromatography. Standard FBS typically contains 200–800 µg/mL bovine IgG — a level that co-purifies with antibodies of interest during Protein A/G purification steps and contributes significant background in immunoassays. Low IgG FBS eliminates this interference, making it the substrate of choice for hybridoma culture, antibody purification workflows, and immunoassay development where bovine IgG contamination is a critical concern.

Applications
| Application | Description |
|---|---|
| Hybridoma culture for monoclonal antibody production | Primary application: bovine IgG contamination from standard FBS co-purifies with antibody of interest during Protein A/G purification; Low IgG FBS eliminates this. |
| Antibody purification workflows (Protein A/G columns) | Eliminates bovine IgG competition during affinity chromatography — reduces contaminant load and improves antibody yield and purity. |
| ELISA and immunoassay development | Minimises non-specific background from anti-bovine IgG cross-reactivity when using anti-IgG secondary antibodies. |
| Flow cytometry with anti-IgG secondary antibodies | Reduces background staining in immunophenotyping assays using anti-IgG detection reagents. |
| Recombinant antibody fragment (Fab, scFv) production | Suitable for CHO and HEK293 expression systems where bovine IgG would interfere with downstream fragment characterisation. |

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between standard FBS and Low IgG FBS?
Standard FBS contains 200–800 µg/mL bovine IgG (immunoglobulin G). This bovine IgG co-purifies with antibodies of interest on Protein A/G columns and contributes non-specific background in immunoassays. Low IgG FBS has been processed by Protein A/G affinity chromatography to reduce bovine IgG to below 5 µg/mL, eliminating these interferences while maintaining the growth-promoting properties of standard FBS.
Is Low IgG FBS suitable as a drop-in replacement for standard FBS in hybridoma culture?
Yes — Low IgG FBS supports hybridoma cell growth comparably to standard FBS. The IgG depletion step does not significantly affect the growth factors, hormones, and attachment factors that drive cell proliferation. It is specifically recommended for hybridoma workflows where downstream Protein A/G purification is used, as it dramatically reduces bovine IgG co-purification.
How is the IgG depletion verified?
Each lot is tested for residual IgG concentration by ELISA or nephelometry and must meet the specification of <5 µg/mL before release. IgG quantification data is included in the Certificate of Analysis (CoA) supplied with every order.
Can Low IgG FBS be used in ELISA or immunoassay blocking buffers?
Yes — Low IgG FBS is frequently used as a blocking and diluent component in ELISA and immunoassay protocols where secondary anti-IgG antibodies are employed. Its low residual bovine IgG minimises non-specific signal from cross-reactive secondary antibodies, improving assay sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratios.
What documentation is included with FBS Low IgG?
Every order includes a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) with IgG quantification data. A BSE/TSE statement, Certificate of Origin (COO), and sterility/mycoplasma test reports are available on request. Products are supplied from ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certified partner facilities.
