Description

Product Overview

SeamlessBio Human Serum Off-the-Clot (OTC) is sourced from healthy, certified donors at regulated and traceable collection centres in the EU and USA. Collected without anticoagulants, the serum undergoes natural clot formation before separation and 0.2 µm sterile filtration — preserving a physiologically active protein, hormone, and growth factor composition for reliable performance in cell culture, diagnostics, and immunological research.

This product is available exclusively as heat inactivated (56 °C, 30 min) or gamma irradiated — providing defined biosafety for sensitive applications. For the highest-specification human serum with male-only donors and AB blood group, see Human Serum Type AB Male Off-the-Clot. Explore the full Human Sera & Biomaterials Portfolio.

Applications

Application Role of Human Serum OTC
Human & primary cell culture Xeno-free supplement for human cell lines, primary cells, and co-culture systems — eliminates bovine cross-reactivities associated with FBS.
Immunoassays & antibody production Human-specific matrix for ELISA development, immunoprecipitation, and hybridoma culture where human-origin serum components are required.
Diagnostic development & QC testing Physiologically relevant sample matrix for IVD kit development, lot release testing, and quality control in diagnostic workflows.
Cell therapy & immunological research Serum-free or xeno-free supplement for immunological studies, complement-sensitive assays, and cell therapy process development.

Heat Inactivation vs. Gamma Irradiation

Parameter Heat Inactivated (56 °C, 30 min) Gamma Irradiated (25–45 kGy)
Complement inactivation ✔ Complete Partial
Growth factor retention Moderate reduction ✔ Better retained
Viral safety Partial inactivation ✔ Enhanced viral clearance
Best for Complement-sensitive assays, immunology ATMP process development, high biosafety requirements

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Human Serum Off-the-Clot and how does it differ from plasma-derived serum?

Off-the-clot (OTC) human serum is produced by allowing whole blood to coagulate naturally without anticoagulants. During clot formation, platelets degranulate and release growth factors (PDGF, EGF, TGF-β, IGF-1) into the serum — resulting in higher native growth factor content than plasma-derived serum, which is produced by adding CaCl₂ to anticoagulated plasma. OTC serum is the physiologically more complete matrix and is preferred for cell culture, immunological studies, and applications requiring the full native protein composition of human serum.

What is the difference between heat inactivation and gamma irradiation, and which should I choose?

Heat inactivation (56 °C, 30 min) fully inactivates complement proteins — making it the standard choice for complement-sensitive applications such as immunoassays, hybridoma culture, and haematopoietic cell expansion. It reduces growth factor activity moderately. Gamma irradiation (25–45 kGy) provides enhanced viral clearance with better retention of growth factors and biological activity — preferred for high-biosafety requirements in ATMP process development or applications where complement inactivation is not needed. Specify your preferred treatment at order; both are documented in the lot CoA.

When should I choose Human Serum AB Male Off-the-Clot instead of this product?

Human Serum Type AB Male Off-the-Clot is the higher-specification variant: AB blood group eliminates anti-A/anti-B antibody interference, male-only donors remove hormonal variability (oestradiol, progesterone) and TRALI risk from anti-MHC antibodies, and the pooled lot of 200–250 donors delivers maximum batch consistency. It is the preferred choice for CAR-T, NK cell, and MSC expansion, ATMP manufacturing (Ph. Eur. 5.2.12), and IVD assay development where blood group specificity matters. This OTC product (mixed gender, mixed blood group) is well suited for general human cell culture, immunological research, and diagnostic QC where AB specification is not required.

What pack sizes are available and is batch reservation possible?

Human Serum OTC is available in 50 mL and 100 mL bottles; larger volumes are available on request. Batch reservation is available for up to 36 months — contact our team with your required volume and project timeline to hold a validated lot for your programme.

What documentation is supplied with Human Serum Off-the-Clot?

Every order includes a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) with lot-specific test results for pH, osmolality, total protein, and sterility. Additional documentation — including Certificate of Origin (CoO), Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and processing records for heat inactivation or gamma irradiation — is available on request. Products are handled at ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certified partner facilities.
