Description
Product Overview
SeamlessBio Pig Serum (Porcine Serum, EU Origin) is collected from healthy Sus scrofa domesticus at EU-approved facilities under controlled conditions, sterile filtered at 0.2 µm, and batch-tested for purity and consistency. Supplied with full lot documentation for use in preclinical research, porcine primary cell culture, and diagnostic assay development.
Porcine serum is the species-specific supplement of choice for pig-derived primary cells and is valued in biomedical research for its physiological similarity to human serum — particularly in cardiovascular, hepatic, and gastrointestinal models. See the full portfolio on our Animal Sera overview page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why use pig serum instead of FBS in porcine cell culture?
FBS is a universal supplement suited to most standard mammalian cell lines, but for porcine primary cells — hepatocytes, cardiomyocytes, kidney cells — a species-matched serum provides a physiologically more relevant environment. Pig serum contains porcine-specific growth factors, hormones, and transport proteins that better support species-authentic cell behaviour. FBS remains appropriate for immortalised cell lines regardless of species origin.
Why is porcine serum relevant for preclinical and biomedical research?
Pigs are among the most physiologically similar large mammals to humans — particularly in cardiovascular anatomy, hepatic metabolism, and gastrointestinal biology. Porcine serum is therefore widely used in translational research, drug metabolism studies, xenotransplantation models, and cardiovascular device testing where human-proximal data is required but human material is not practical.
Is heat-inactivated or gamma-irradiated pig serum available?
Yes — both heat inactivation (56 °C, 30 min) and gamma irradiation are available on request. Heat inactivation destroys complement proteins and is recommended for complement-sensitive assay and cell culture applications. Gamma-irradiated pig serum is used where additional sterility assurance is required. Both treatments are documented in the lot Certificate of Analysis.
Can I request a test sample before placing a full order?
Yes — complimentary test volumes are available on request for qualified research and manufacturing enquiries. Please submit your request via our quote form with details of your application and required volume.
What documentation is supplied with EU Origin Pig Serum?
Every order includes a Certificate of Analysis (CoA), Certificate of Origin (CoO), and Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Additional documentation — sterility and mycoplasma test protocols — is available on request. Products are handled at ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certified partner facilities. Batch reservation for up to 36 months is available on request.
