Human Plasma — Type AB, Male Donors
Plasma from certified male AB blood-type donors — free of anti-A and anti-B antibodies. The preferred plasma format for CAR-T expansion, NK cell manufacturing, MSC culture and any immunologically sensitive cell therapy application. EU and US origin, with batch reservation for ATMP programmes.

Why AB blood type — and why male donors only?
Blood group AB is the only group carrying neither anti-A nor anti-B antibodies. In all other blood groups — A, B and O — these alloantibodies circulate in plasma and can activate complement, lyse cells bearing the corresponding antigen, and create non-specific immune effects in culture systems that are difficult to distinguish from assay signal.
Restricting the donor pool to male donors addresses a second source of variability: sex hormone concentrations. Female plasma contains cyclically fluctuating oestrogens, progesterone and FSH/LH — hormones that activate steroid receptors in cultured cells, alter proliferation rates and confound results in hormone-sensitive assays. Male donors provide a consistently low and stable sex hormone background.
Together, AB blood type and male-only donor selection give the lowest alloantibody background and most consistent hormonal environment available in non-processed human plasma — which is why AB male plasma is specified in CAR-T protocols and ATMP workflows where regulatory agencies increasingly scrutinise animal-derived component profiles.

|---|---|---|---|
| Anti-A antibodies | Absent | Present (A/O donors) | Variable |
| Anti-B antibodies | Absent | Present (B/O donors) | Variable |
| Oestrogen / progesterone | Low, stable | Low, stable | Fluctuating |
| Inter-lot hormonal variability | Niedrig | Niedrig | Moderate–High |
| Universal cell compatibility (any ABO) | Ja | Nein | Depends on mix |
| Preferred for CAR-T / ATMP | Ja | Not recommended | Not recommended |
Plasma vs. Serum — Type AB Male: SeamlessBio also supplies Menschliches Serum, OTC, Typ AB, männlich — produced from whole blood without anticoagulant, so it lacks coagulation factors but contains higher concentrations of platelet-released growth factors. For cell culture where coagulation factor activity is not required, off-the-clot serum is often specified. For assays requiring intact factor activity, use plasma.

Frequently asked questions
Is AB male plasma available as single units or pooled lots — or both?
Both. Single AB male donor units provide per-donor traceability and are suitable for reference panel construction. Pooled AB male lots (multiple AB male donors combined) provide a larger homogeneous volume for manufacturing and scale-up. State your preference and required volume at enquiry.
Which anticoagulant should I specify for CAR-T or NK cell expansion media?
ACD-A (Acid Citrate Dextrose Formula A) is the preferred anticoagulant for cell therapy plasma used as a media supplement — less cytotoxic at typical usage concentrations than EDTA, and commonly specified in PBMC and NK cell protocols. EDTA is standard for IVD applications. Specify your requirement at order — all three formats are available.
Can this plasma support a GMP cell therapy manufacturing process?
SeamlessBio AB male plasma is available with extended documentation to support GMP process development and manufacturing qualification — including TSE statements, donor consent documentation and manufacturing site certification where available. Discuss your specific regulatory submission requirements directly with us. Contact info@seamlessbio.de.
What is the difference between this product and Human Serum OTC Type AB Male?
Plasma is collected with anticoagulant before centrifugation and retains all coagulation factors including fibrinogen. Off-the-clot serum is obtained after natural clotting — no coagulation factors remain, but platelets degranulate during clotting and release additional growth factors (PDGF, TGF-β) into the serum. For cell culture supplementation, serum is often preferred. For applications requiring intact coagulation factor activity, use plasma. See Menschliches Serum, OTC, Typ AB, männlich →
