Human Serum Type AB Male
EU and US-origin, clotted Type AB serum from male donors exclusively — combining the universal blood-type advantage with no TRALI risk and reduced hormonal lot-to-lot variability, for diagnostics, immunology, vaccine development and cell therapy research.
No TRALI Risk
Male-only donor pool eliminates the risk of TRALI (Transfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury) associated with HLA antibodies from female donors — critical for sensitive cell culture and clinical assay applications.
Reduced Lot Variability
Male-donor serum avoids female hormonal fluctuation, delivering tighter lot-to-lot consistency for long-term studies, assay development and applications sensitive to protein composition changes.
Universal Blood Type
Type AB — no anti-A or anti-B antibodies — eliminates blood-type-specific interference in ELISA, immunoassay and lateral flow formats, exactly as in our mixed-gender Type AB product.
Treatment Options
Available as standard clotted serum or on request as heat inactivated (HI), gamma irradiated (GI) or low-endotoxin specification. ATMP documentation (Ph. Eur. 5.2.12) available.
When lot consistency and TRALI-free sourcing matter
Human Serum Type AB Male is the premium specification for applications where the mixed-gender Type AB product is not consistent enough. By restricting the donor pool to male donors only, it removes two sources of lot-to-lot variability: female sex hormone fluctuation (oestrogen, progesterone, LH, FSH) and the HLA antibodies that arise in female donors post-pregnancy.
This makes Type AB Male the specification of choice for long-running assay development, clinical diagnostic manufacturing where matrix variability must be minimised, and cell therapy R&D workflows where the serum acts as a supplement or matrix component and HLA antibody contamination is unacceptable.
As with all SeamlessBio human serum, lot screening aliquots are available before full orders, and lot reservation ensures continuity across your project timeline. Heat inactivation, gamma irradiation and low-endotoxin variants can be specified on request.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the advantage of male-donor-only human serum over mixed-gender Type AB?
Male-donor-only serum offers two key advantages over mixed-gender Type AB serum: (1) it eliminates TRALI risk from HLA antibodies that develop in female donors post-pregnancy, and (2) it reduces lot-to-lot variability caused by female sex hormone fluctuation (oestrogen, progesterone, LH, FSH). For long-term research, clinical diagnostic manufacturing or cell therapy workflows where serum matrix consistency must be tightly controlled, Type AB Male provides a more reproducible starting material than mixed-gender Type AB.
What is TRALI and why does male-donor serum eliminate it?
Transfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury (TRALI) is an adverse response linked to HLA antibodies and biologically active lipids. In blood products, TRALI risk is primarily associated with female donors who develop HLA antibodies following pregnancy. Male donors do not develop pregnancy-associated HLA antibodies, so male-donor-only serum eliminates this risk factor — relevant for cell therapy R&D and any application where the serum contacts immune cells or lung-derived cell types.
Is Human Serum Type AB Male suitable for cell therapy R&D?
Yes. Human Serum Type AB Male is used in cell therapy R&D (non-GMP) workflows where a defined, male-donor serum matrix is required as a supplement or process component. The elimination of TRALI risk and female hormonal variability makes it preferable to mixed-gender serum for T-cell expansion, NK-cell culture and MSC-related applications. For regulated ATMP manufacturing, we provide full Ph. Eur. 5.2.12 donor documentation on request.
What documentation is included with Human Serum Type AB Male from SeamlessBio?
Every batch comes with a Certificate of Analysis (CoA). On request, we supply ATMP-relevant donor documentation per Ph. Eur. 5.2.12, detailed origin certificates, heat inactivation or gamma irradiation records, and lot reservation agreements. All documentation is provided in English.
Is heat inactivated or gamma irradiated Human Serum Type AB Male available?
Yes. Heat inactivated (56 °C, 30 min, complement-depleted) and gamma irradiated versions of Human Serum Type AB Male are available on request. These treatments are selected based on whether complement activity needs to be removed (HI) or pathogen inactivation is required (GI). Low-endotoxin specifications are also available. Please indicate your required treatment when requesting a quote.
In which volumes and formats is Human Serum Type AB Male available?
Available in standard bottle formats and in bag formats for larger volumes. There is no minimum order quantity for standard sizes. Bulk volumes and customised lot reservations are available on request for IVD manufacturing, scale-up or long-term research programmes. Contact us for current stock and lead times for specific donor-age cohort lots if required.
How does Human Serum Type AB Male differ from Human Serum OTC Type AB Male?
Human Serum Type AB Male is standard clotted serum — collected after coagulation and centrifugation in the conventional way. Human Serum OTC (off-the-clot) Type AB Male is collected during the clotting process, capturing platelet degranulation products including PDGF, EGF, TGF-β and IGF-1. OTC serum has a richer native growth factor profile suited for cell expansion. Standard clotted Type AB Male has a cleaner, more defined composition suited for diagnostic matrices and assay development where growth factor background must be controlled.
Does SeamlessBio deliver Human Serum Type AB Male to the UK and Switzerland?
Yes. SeamlessBio ships human serum cold-chain to all EU member states, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, handling all required export and import documentation. Contact us for current lead times and delivery terms for your region.
