While all SeamlessBio FBS batches are sourced from EU-origin, BSE-controlled herds and tested for mycoplasma and BVDV, some downstream applications — particularly ATMP manufacturing, cell and gene therapy production, and other GMP-adjacent processes — benefit from an additional, validated viral inactivation step.

Gamma irradiation achieves this by exposing the serum to a controlled dose of ionising radiation, which inactivates viral and microbial contaminants without the heat exposure associated with heat inactivation, helping to preserve the serum's native growth factor and protein profile.

This makes gamma-irradiated FBS a common choice where regulatory documentation needs to demonstrate an explicit, validated viral clearance step beyond standard serum sourcing and testing controls.
