Why IgG levels matter for antibody production
Standard fetal bovine serum naturally contains residual bovine immunoglobulin G (IgG), which can interfere with hybridoma cloning efficiency, mask low-titre monoclonal antibody signals, and contaminate downstream antibody purification. For applications where antibody specificity and purity are critical, this background bovine IgG needs to be minimised as far as possible.
SeamlessBio FBS Ultra Low IgG is screened to a confirmed specification of below 5 µg/mL bovine IgG per batch — a considerably tighter threshold than standard or even "low IgG" labelled serum from many suppliers, and verified individually rather than estimated from pooled data.
This makes the grade particularly suited to early-stage hybridoma screening, where even small amounts of background bovine IgG can produce false positives or obscure genuine clone-specific signal.
